Unregulated dumping and burning of municipal waste systematically damages the air we breathe, the water basins Kathmandu relies on, and the global atmosphere.
AIR
Burning waste pollutes the air and can cause respiratory diseases.
WATER
Landfill leachate contamination water supplies and spreads waterborne diseases.
CLIMATE
Buried organic waste decomposes, releasing methane—a powerful greenhouse gas.

Modern consumption introduces dangerous pollutants: hazardous chemicals, heavy metals from discarded e-waste, and microplastics entering our food, water, and bodies.
The problem isn't waste. It's what happens to it.
Nepal’s waste challenge requires comprehensive, localized and long-term solutions. It is important to close the loop through effective policies, projects, community partnerships and CSR initiatives to create lasting impact and build a circular economy that benefits everyone.

We work on all policy levels- strengthening national guidelines while empowering local municipalities to turn waste policy into action. We are currently developing a national Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Toolkit to tackle plastic waste.
